Summary: Back in January, the WindMade certificate scheme was put into place and it allowed companies to buy renewable energy. The scheme seems to be going good and many companies are purchasing the energy. The companies buy at least 25% of their electricity from wind, which is a pretty easy goal for them. There are many companies that signed up for this plan, such as, Motorola Mobility, Deutsche Bank, Method, Lego and Bloomberg. "We believe in leading by example and have increased our use of clean electricity from 7 percent to 65 percent over the last four years," says and officer from Deutsche Bank.

Opinion: I think it is great that these companies are switching to renewable energy. Their clean energy has gone up so much. Hopefully this will cause less pollution. Also, many other companies should start doing this too. I have seen many windmills when I drive out to the countryside and that is good!

Questions:
1. How do you think they came up with this?
2. Would you do it if you owned a company?
3. How would this effect negatively?

  1. OPINION/REFLECTION: I think that this is a great idea. Having companies buy renewable energy does not just make profit, it also has a positive effect on the environment. I love hearing and seeing all of these new things or old things finally surfacing that has to do with renewable energy. It may be wierd to say this but I smile every time I see a windmill; like when I saw a bunch in areas of California and when I hear stories of the improvement on the use of renewable sources. Hopefully the trend will continue to catch on and the air will not be as polluted as it is today.

ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS: 1) I think they came up with this to make profit and help the environment. Also, sometimes people come up with an idea to lure customers into to their business, and helping the environment is an appealing thing to lure in companies and other businesses.

    2) Yes I would do this if I owned a company because anything to help the environment is a good choice.

    3) I do not think that this would in any way be negative. The only problem that could ever occur is the price of buying renenwable energy. If the price of buying the energy is too high than some companies could go broke.

    EXTRA QUESTIONS:
    1) Have you ever seen something as windmills built for renewable energy? Where?

    2) If you were to get renewable energy, what source would you most likely use and why?

    3) Do you think that the cost for buying renewable energy would be high? Why and how would this effect companies?

  2. Opinion/Refelction: I think that this is a great idea because now our environment will not be as polluted. More companies should do this and it will make a big impact on the environment and the amount of pollution. There are many improvements with clean energy lately, and that is really good. All of theses improvements should spread to other places around the world so it can help everyone even more. I agree with them because whenever I see windmills, it makes me happy because they are good.

    Answers to questions:
    1. I think they wanted to help the environment with it.
    2. Yes I would because it is helping the environment.
    3. The only negative thing might be the price of it. It might be really expensive.

    Other Questions:
    1. How could this spread to other companies?
    2. Why do you think people haven't thought of this before?
    3. Why haven't more companies used renewable energy yet?

  3. Reflection: I think this a great idea. I'm glad that several big companies are using it, and hopefully many more will be switching over. Wind energy is practaically free, always renewable, and easy to get! It is also super green and won't pollute our air. This affects me because I purchase things from these companies and now there won't be as much pollution from them.

    Questions:
1)Well everyone knows about windpower, so they probably figured they would try it, and it would save them tons of money.
    2) I would try to be as green as possible and use the wind energy becasue it would be better for the planet (most important), not cost as much, make green people buy from you, and look good for your company!
3)I couldn't really see this having a negative effect, but I guess if there wasn't wind becasue big buildings blocked it or something they wouldn't be able to collect it. Or there could be pollution from the trucks while setting the windmills up. It could also be expensive.

    Questions:
    1) Predictions for companies to use it in future? By 2012? 2015? 2020?
    2) Would the average American switch to this? Why or why not?
2.5) Which is better, solar panels or wind power? Why?

  4. Opinion/Reflection:I think this is awesome because the world will not be as polluted as much! This could possibly slow down global warming. This can also save coal and oil for the future. Wind is also free and it is also renewable until the world ends.

    Answer to questions:
1)I think they wanted to make the earth a greener place.
2)Yes because it would save a lot of money over time.
3)I don't think this could harm or pollute the air in any way.

    More questions:
1)Do you think wind will ever become non-renewable?
    2) How does this impact any people or animals?
    3) Do you thing this methods will stick around?
